Gianluca Brambilla signed with Trek-Segafredo in 2018. His strength is when the road tilts upward – the steeper, the better – and he is a valued teammate in hilly races. Gianluca has accumulated stage wins in the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España and finished third in Strade Bianche. The Italian climber is a veteran of 13 Grand Tours and has completed his home country's race, the Giro d'Italia, seven times. He had the team's backing in a leadership role for the 2018 Giro but was diagnosed with pneumonia, which kept him off the bike for most of March and impeded his preparation. At the end of the 2019 season, he was back to his attacking ways, but the 2020 pandemic-altered season left little for him to chase. At the start of 2021, Gianluca found victory again: in a gritty solo move, he won the final stage and overall in Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var.
