When young sprinter Matteo Moschetti began to stockpile victories in 2018 with the U23 Kometa Cycling team - ending with nine for the season - Trek-Segafredo wasted no time in signing him to a contract. Moschetti describes himself as a rouleur with good top speed and would like, above all, to win a big Classic. He is still gaining experience against the WorldTour's fastest finishers and proved his potential with a second place in the steep Hatta Dam stage finish at the 2019 UAE Tour. Matteo has had to endure more than his fair share of crashes resulting in injury.  He missed a good part of the 2019 season, returned for the pandemic-shortened 2020, notched two wins in his first two races at the Challenge Mallorca, then fractured his hip socket at Étoile de Bessèges.  Matteo completed 2021 without incident, grabbing a few top five places in sprint finishes before claiming second in Stage 2 at the Tour of Sicily.  There's little doubt Matteo is ready for a breakthrough season to confirm his talent.

Questions /

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

A lion. Because in the final of a race, I become aggressive.

If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go, and why?

Iceland, because it's a magical land!

What was the biggest obstacle you have overcome?

The injury I had to overcome in 2019. I started my journey by accepting what had happened. I’m not superstitious, I don’t believe in luck, but I think there is a destiny for everyone. The accident was part of mine. I started my recovery by setting myself very simple goals, like walking or putting on socks myself. Every little gesture gave me huge satisfaction and helped me get through the most complicated days, the ones with the lowest morale.
