Michel Ries joined Trek-Segafredo as a stagiaire in 2018, gaining some first-hand experience with the WorldTour team. Still, General Manager Luca Guercilena decided the young Luxembourger would benefit from another year to develop further with the U23 Kometa Cycling Team. It was the right call. In 2019, Michel finished second in two stages at the prestigious U23 race, the Tour de l’Avenir, and finished seventh overall. He also secured third in the Mountains Classification, proving his climbing prowess. Earlier in the season, Michel won Stage 3 of the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta Mont Blanc, while teammate Juan Pedro López claimed Stage 4 a day later. Both riders signed with Trek-Segafredo, a WorldTour team that continues to invest in its future with exciting young prospects.
