In 2017 Niklas Eg finished third overall at the prestigious Under-23 race, the Tour de l'Avenir, which helped seal a contract with Trek-Segafredo the following year. The lanky Dane is a natural climber and valuable support for the team's GC leaders. He's at his best in stage races and rode his first Grand Tour, the Giro d'Italia, in his first season. In 2020, he doubled up: his first Tour de France followed by his second Vuelta a España. A quiet and reserved rider, Niklas still has a significant margin for improvement. He is in his fourth season with Trek-Segafredo and on the cusp of ripening into his best years.

Be patient

What was the biggest obstacle you have overcome?
