Niklas Eg's third place at the prestigious Under-23 race in the 2017 Tour de l'Avenir helped seal a contract with Trek-Segafredo the following year. The 25-year-old Dane is a natural climber and valuable support for the team's GC leaders. He's at his best in stage races and has already ridden the Giro d'Italia in 2018 and La Vuelta a España in 2019. A quiet and reserved rider, Niklas was thrust into the limelight at the 2019 Tour of Utah when he found himself in the middle of a tight and thrilling battle for the overall podium. On the final day, a week of punishing steep climbs at high-altitude had the last say, and he ultimately finished in 5th place. Niklas still has a significant margin for improvement, and his contract extension through 2021 will allow him the time to develop and grow.

Questions /

What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

I'd say the Vuelta. Every day was full gas and I probably didn't always enjoy it in the moment, but looking back, I have fond memories.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would that be?

I would like to try to be a classics rider for just one day.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who gave it?

I had a teacher who was always saying "T T T" meaning "ting tager tid" or translated to "things take time".

What is your favorite Bontrager or Trek equipment?

I really like the Bontrager carbon wheels. Teamed up with the Emonda and you have a pretty sweet setup.
