Evie wins World Cup Namur

20 year old phenom Evie Richards wins first elite World Cup

This weekend, Trek Factory Racing’s Evie Richards confirmed her status as one of cycling’s up and coming talents. After a full season of U-23 World Cup XC racing, Evie made her mark on the elite category of cyclocross. The win showed Evie’s talents as rider who never gives up, and refuses to let setbacks affect performance.

In Evie’s own words:

“I can’t really believe I took my first elite win in Namur, it really feels quite surreal! I have had a really tough few weeks with injuries and illnesses, so to get back on the start line felt amazing. My start position was quite far back and had a bad start, so I just tried to stay calm and move my way up the field. When I came through the starting hill I heard that a second GB rider was in forth, I then realized that was me!"

"I was feeling strong and just kept pushing on, I love running hills so I pushed hard on those and was in my own world when I took the lead. On the last lap I made a few mistakes, simply because I couldn’t believe I was leading, in a field full of riders I look up to! It was so cool to share the podium with a fellow British rider (Nikki) and having my family singing the national anthem in the crowd was amazing! I don’t think I could of imagined a more perfect way to kick off the season with my new team."
