Katie Compton closes 16’/17′ season

The 13 time National Champion calls it a season, and looks to next year

After a successful 2016/2017 cyclocross season, Katie Compton is ready to put the legs up, and relax. With numerous wins at home and abroad, it’s been a great season, with little getting in the way of the US’s most successful cyclocross racer of all time. Although 16’/17′ is in the books, cross is always coming, and next season looms.

At the beginning of the season, Katie’s goals were to win the Pan Am championships, US Nationals, and the World Championships. Two out of three for Katie, as only the win at Worlds escaped her.

A mechanical would cause issues for Katie at Worlds, but overall, the race prep was good. Different from years past, Katie stayed in Europe after Worlds. This would prove to be a good decision as she won the Leuven cross race, finishing her season in epic fashion.

At home in the US, the races went very well, with Katie winning most of her US program. This would include day one of the Trek CXC Cup, a race stepping up to World Cup status next year. Fans of the race watched both days of the race live on Trekbikes.com.

As the scene in North America evolves, Katie is excited to see where it goes. The racing is there, but in Katie’s eyes, continued television and media coverage is something that needs to happen for all races, if the momentum is to continue.

For the 2017/2018 season, Katie is excited for continued success. She will focus on similar goals as in the past, but with an expanded European focus. Katie will commit to doing the DVV series of races in Europe, the Pan Am championships, and the recently changed December timed US Nationals.

Now, with her European base more dialed than ever, Katie is excited to make a statement in the biggest races at home, and abroad.
