Peter Stetina on Bontrager Ballista road shoe

The new Ballista road shoe is the first of Bontrager’s lineup to feature a rear-mounted Boa closure. Those who have worn them can attest to how much more comfortable they are. The rear-mounted Boa closure system is centralized around a single focus “Heel Lock” system, alleviating top foot pressures and evenly distributing forefoot lockdown with asymmetrical cable routing. Much like the Ballista helmet, this shoe is all about the comfort of everyday riding with features that give you an advantage on race day.  Watch Peter’s video below to see why he and some of our other athletes have been choosing the new Ballista road shoe as their go-to when time matters most.

It's like an all-encompassing glove when you cinch this thing down

Peter played a large role in the development of Ballista. He was one of our main test riders providing feedback during development, which we then took and utilized to further refine the shoe. One example is that early prototypes featured a mesh base material with transparent TPU film bonded to the mesh. His feet were getting excessively hot, so, eventually we removed this and went to zonal perforated synthetic material for full on maximized breath-ability. Additionally, Peter was having bad “hoot foot” (nerve issues) prior, and our in-house biomechanical engineers were able to use pressure mapping tools to help aid in eliminating that. New Shoe Day just got almost as exciting as New Bike Day.

If you are in the market for a pro-caliber road cycling shoe that puts speed and performance first, look no further, the Ballista is the shoe for you. Ballista is also offered in a limited LTD option, which has the same fit and performance as the standard model, but features a vis-yellow colorway and integrated reflectivity for enhanced visibility in both day and night.
