Compton, van der Haar win in Ronse

Trek riders strike strong in DVV series opener

During this weekend’s DVV Trofee opener in Ronse, Trek riders took both the womens and mens race wins. In the elite women, it was all Katie Compton, who took control of the course, riding a strong and confident race to take the solo win. For the men, it was Telenet-Fidea’s Lars van der Haar, taking the win over Mathieu van der Poel and Wout Van Aert.

For Katie, it was all about making the course work for her. In her own words;

"It was a great course, hard but really fun to ride. Lots of ups and downs and good off-camber sections that were tricky. I felt pretty good but wanted to race conservatively since I just got to Belgium, and it’s also my first hard effort after the bee sting, so I wasn’t sure how it would go. I had a great start and felt strong once I got going, so I went with it, tried to ride smart and controlled till the finish. It feels great to start the series with a win and a little bit of time on the competition."

The Telenet Fidea team came to the season opener in Ronse with confidence from a solid World Cup campaign in the United States. With Toon Aerts at the front holding back a surging van der Poel, the decisive attack indeed came from Lars van der Harr. Lars kept on a consistently powerful pace, and benefited from a lack of organization behind him. Lars would take the win by 20 seconds, and Toon Aerts would come in at fifth, in the chase group.
