Trek riders finish World Cup season with overall wins and podiums
Over the span of multiple categories of racing, Trek riders walked away from the World Cup Hoogerheide with much to smile upon. In the elite womens race, it was a podium for Evie Richards. For Telenet-Fidea’s U-23 team of Tom Pidcock and Fleur Nagengast, the results were good enough to lock up the World Cup overall wins.
For Evie, the result was a pleasant outcome after an exhausting block of training.
“I am super happy to get back on the podium in my second World Cup, it feels at bit surreal! I My legs were pretty tired from a large training block the week before, but thankfully they felt good on the day! I started from the back again and just fought till the finish. I was so excited to race and the course didn’t disappoint as it had two really cool new features. Worlds is just round the corner so I’m going to rest up ready to go full gas for the champs."
Tom Pidcock started his race with a bad crash and ended up under a pile of bikes and riders. Luckily, he was not injured and had a very strong race, eventually coming back to the second spot on the podium.
“I felt really strong during the race yesterday, even after the crash. This feeling gives me great confidence for the World Championships in Valkenburg next week!”
Fleur Nagengast secured her World Cup overall win yesterday, but it didn’t come without drama. The ladies race was hectic, and Fleur was hindered by a slow start, and troubles with bike changes.
"I came through the end of the race and was able to overtake some riders and keep the leading position in the World Cup. It made the perfect birthday present! Now I really look forward to the U23 Worlds next week. To me, Evie Richards is the favorite in our category – but I look forward to riding a strong race in my home country.”
