Trek-Segafredo debuts KOO’s new Spectro and Demos performance sunglasses

The new, bold Spectro and Demos eyewear models will be worn by Trek-Segafredo men and women’s teams throughout the remainder of the 2020 season.

Italian performance eyewear brand KOO launched the two new performance eyewear models, the Spectro and the Demos on the eve of the Grand Départ of the 107th edition of the Tour de France. The bold new models are already being worn by the likes of UCI World Champion Mads Pedersen and this year’s Tour de France co-leaders; Ritchie Porte and Bauke Mollema for the Trek-Segafredo UCI WorldTour team, as well as Trek-Segafredo UCI Women’s WorldTour team riders including the multi-talented Elisa Longo Borghini and Lizzie Deignan, who won La Course 2020 in her first race sporting the new KOO sunglasses.

Both Spectro and Demos feature a striking single-lens construction that, courtesy of the brand’s long-standing partnership with optics experts Zeiss®, offers panoramic visual clarity. Meanwhile, KOO’s bold and unique Italian styling sets both models apart from eyewear worn by the rest of this season’s peloton.

“The biggest feature the riders are enjoying on the newer models, the Spectro and the Demos, is the extended eye coverage due to the wider lens. It gives them more coverage and less air getting in due to wind and high-speed descents. The large vents also prevent any fogginess that is common in large lens eyewear. Besides these, much appreciated, features the new, updated style of the glasses also look great on the riders. They have multiple nosepieces so they can get the correct fit for their individual features and multiple lenses to choose from. Finally, they have noticed a big improvement with the Zeiss® lenses in rainy conditions,” said Matt Shriver, Trek-Segafredo’s Technical Director.

SPECTRO

A personal favorite of ‘Lo Squalo’ (‘the Shark’) – Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali – Spectro’s uncompromising, aggressive and angular design speaks to the ‘all or nothing’ attacks for which he is world–renowned. An imposing one-piece lens protects the rider from insects and debris at speed while four large vents surround the premium Zeiss® lenses to eliminate fogging, whatever the weather. The sunglasses’ adjustable nose-piece ensures a tailored and stable fit throughout the ride.

Perfectly suited for road and triathlon use, Spectro is available in five frame/lens colorway combinations that provide a rate of Visible Light Transmission (VLT) from 11% to 23%, to accommodate lighting conditions across the spectrum. Riders can choose between White/Green Mirror (23%), White/Super Silver (11%), Black/Super Bronze (12%), Black/Red Mirror (23%) and Black/Turquoise (11%). An additional pink lens, available to purchase separately, offers a higher VLT rate of 58% specifically designed for low visibility conditions, to help increase sharpness and contrast. Spectro comes in one universal size, with an Asian-fit nose pad available to purchase separately.

DEMOS

Alongside Spectro, Demos has also proven popular with Trek-Segafredo’s riders and is the perfect eyewear for road, triathlon, gravel and off-road riders alike. Former World Champion Lizzie Deignan has opted for the distinctive style of Demos, which features slightly more subtle, rounder design than Spectro and debuted the new model with a stunning win at La Course. The design makes use of a one-piece lens with generous ventilation, while an adjust-to-fit nose-piece ensures superior grip and comfort when riding.

“I genuinely like the new sunglasses; I find them really comfortable and the big lens are exceptional for my vision. They have complete UV-light coverage and I no longer find myself squinting, no matter the weather conditions. In short, I’m really happy with the fit and how comfortable they feel on my face and the quality and clarity of vision is flawless,” said Deignan.

Demos is available in four frame colorways: White, Black, Blue and Glass. Seven frame/lens combinations are available to choose from, offering a VLT of 11-58%: White/Brown (23%), White/Turquoise (11%), Black/Green (23%), Black/Rose (58%), Black/Blue (11%), Blue (11%) and Glass/Red (23%). Like Spectro, Demos also comes in one universal size, with an Asian-fit nose pad available to purchase separately.
