Drops 2017 outlook

UCI professional women’s team expects strong results with expanded support from Trek

Trek Bicycle and the Trek Race Shop are proud to announce their expanded support of the UK-based DROPS Cycling Team. Trek’s deepened commitment to the team will allow DROPS to capitalize on new riders and equipment, building on their impressive maiden season to become the team to beat in the women’s pro peloton.

DROPS Cycling Team was founded in 2016 under the leadership of Bob Varney with the goal of raising the profile of professional women’s cycling with a well-supported and structured program. The key to the team’s success is a supportive training environment for riders to develop and reach their full potential. After an inspiring first season, the team is looking forward to this year’s race schedule and a deeper relationship with Trek.

“Having Trek as a partner has been so important for the team, both in the performance equipment they provide, and the support they offer behind the scenes,” said Team Director Tom Varney. “We are thrilled they have decided to increase that level of support and are excited to be working with them again in 2017.”

For 2017, the team adds depth to its roster with a host of new riders from a variety of countries. New to the team are Ann-Sophie Duyck (BEL), Martina Ritter (AUT), and Suzanna Zorzi (ITA). Keep an eye out for Alice Barnes (GBR), Abby- Mae Parkinson (GBR), Lizzie Holden (GBR), and Laura Massey (GBR), along with a full roster of competitors animating races on the world stage.

As the team expands its participation in events across the globe, the demands on the DROPS organization and riders have increased. To maintain the high level of professionalism at the core of the team’s success, Trek is proud to increase its commitment with more financial support and equipment. Trek’s additional support will contribute to every rider earning a salary, while competing on a new fleet of race bikes, as well as having home bikes for convenient training.

“I am very enthusiastic about the DROPS partnership,” said Tim Vanderjeugd, Director of Sports Marketing at Trek. “In their very first season, DROPS worked hard to make a name for themselves with their very distinct look and feel. I’m ecstatic to be able to increase our commitment to the team, and support their continued growth in the sport.”

Fans can expect a strong showing this year as DROPS builds on their past success.

“We’ve been supporting the DROPS team from the beginning, and it’s amazing to see how much they’ve grown as a team in such a short period of time,” said Women’s Marketing Manager Emily Bremer. “There’s no doubt in my mind that this will be a team to keep an eye on going forward.”
