Trek-Segafredo announces lineup for Giro Rosa

Italian all-rounder Elisa Longo Borghini is ready to lead the team through the 10 stages.

Trek-Segafredo is pleased to announce its lineup for the 30th Giro Rosa that starts Friday, July 5 in Cassano Spinola and finishes Sunday, July 14 in Udine.

Italian all-rounder Elisa Longo Borghini is ready to lead the team throughout the 10 stages of this year’s Giro Rosa.

It's a very hard Giro Rosa this year, but I think we have a strong team. My preparation so far has been good, and I think it's time to race!

- Elisa Longo Borghini

Elisa Longo-Borghini showed top form during the Ovo Energy Women's Tour.

Longo Borghini will be joined by Audrey Cordon-Ragot (FRA), Anna Plichta (POL), Tayler Wiles (USA), Ruth Winder (USA) and Trixi Worrack (GER).  Both Anna Plichta and Ruth Winder will be displaying their new National Champion jerseys for the first time.

Director Giorgia Bronzini:

“We obviously have Elisa as a GC-rider, and we will try as much as we can to support her to be up there in GC. We start with a team time trial, which could suit us a bit more than some of the opponent teams because it’s an uphill TTT, and the time of the fourth rider counts. With our lineup I think we will have a fourth rider that can be stronger than the fourth rider of some other teams, so we need to fight really well from the beginning and put Elisa in a good position so that she can avoid the stress of losing too much time, or even better, take some time on the others.”

“Every stage at the Giro Rosa is hard and we will definitely try to go for stage wins as well. Ruth and Tayler showed their good form at the USA Nationals, so there might be a chance for them to grab a stage win. In the meanwhile, the others will protect Elisa to be up there in GC. There’s also a TT, where I am convinced Elisa, Tayler, and Audrey can perform well, and why not also Anna, who proved that she’s in shape at the Polish Nationals, winning the title. It will be an uphill TT, but not very steep, so I believe all of our riders can do a good ride there.”

Giorgia Bronzini will be directing the team during the Giro Rosa.

“We expect Elisa to be in good shape and to perform at a constant level. Audrey and Trixi will be road captains and our main support riders for her.  Anna will be a  key support rider as well, and also look to go in early breakaways and show her jersey in the TT of course. Tayler can make the race hard on the climbs, and Ruth is also pretty fast, so she can for sure do a great result showing her jersey in a reduced bunch sprint, or like at her Nationals finishing solo, why not?

“Other than that, we will try to keep the stress away from the girls and create a great atmosphere. Having Ina (Teutenberg) next to me, I am sure everything will run smoothly and we are prepared to bring this race home.”

The team is ready to make a big presence during the 10 days.

Fans and media worldwide will be able to watch each of the 10 stages.  Trek Bikes and Voxwomen have partnered to bring the 2019 Giro Rosa to cycling fans around the world, providing a free hour-long broadcast every day.
