The German rider further strengthens our roster for the coming seasons
Lidl-Trek is pleased to announce the signing of Georg Zimmermann, with the German rider set to join the team from the 2027 season on a contract that will keep him with Lidl-Trek through 2029.
At 28 years old, Zimmermann brings a wealth of WorldTour experience to an ambitious Lidl-Trek squad. The Augsburg-born rider has established himself as a versatile and tenacious presence in the peloton, capable of making an impact across hilly Classics and demanding stage races.
His 2026 season has been a particularly memorable one. Zimmermann claimed the biggest victory of his career at Eschborn-Frankfurt in May, taking an impressive win on home roads. Speaking about his choice to come to Lidl-Trek, Zimmermann said:
First of all, I’m really excited to join Lidl-Trek. The first seven years of my career I was riding in a smaller World Tour team and now making this step to one of the major World Tour teams is a goal that I was looking forward to for a long time.
I think the biggest change that I’m looking forward to is that the tactics will change a little bit. The last years we were mostly looking to what the others were doing and adapting to this, but the big teams like Lidl-Trek are actively involved in making the race.

Zimmermann now joins a Lidl-Trek team that continues to build an increasingly deep and versatile roster, with the German rider adding further strength to our Classics and stage-racing ambitions. Known for his resilience, attacking instinct and willingness to race aggressively, Zimmermann has consistently shown that he can be trusted in the most demanding moments of a race.
“I already know a lot of people in the team from the past that I’m looking forward to working together with. Dr Daniele Zaccaria was a doctor in the first year I was professional and I had a really good time with him. Lennard Kämna is also a rider I’m looking forward to racing with.”
With a three-year agreement taking him through the 2029 season, Zimmermann will have the opportunity to become an important part of Lidl-Trek’s next chapter.
“My goal for the time of my contract is to really become the best Georg Zimmerman possible, with the best support. Like, working with the best coaches on the best equipment and with the best nutritionist and so on. To get the most out of the talent I have, and for this goal, Lidl-Trek will be the ideal place to find out my maximum,” he said.

General Manager Andy Schleck is equally as excited about the signing of Zimmermann, explaining:
“Over the past six years in the WorldTour peloton, we’ve had the privilege of watching Georg grow into the talented and versatile rider he is today. His attitude, determination and fearless style of racing have made a lasting impression on all of us, while delivering some truly memorable moments and special victories along the way.
Most recently he showed his capabilities with victory at this year’s Eschborn-Frankfurt but, we think there is still room for Georg to grow as a rider at Lidl-Trek.”
