Julien Bernard joined Lidl-Trek as a stagiaire in 2015 and confirmed his talent and place in the team with an unexpected leadership role and a 10th place finish at the USA Pro Challenge in Colorado. He signed a contract for 2016 and is beginning his seventh year with the team. The son of former professional cyclist Jean-François Bernard, Julien is a strong climber and savvy rider who has made a niche as a breakaway specialist and reliable support for the team's leaders in the Grand Tours. Julien claimed his first pro victory early in the 2020 season, winning from the breakaway in Stage 3 of the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var.
