10 years after leaving the Trek family as a rider, Monfort returns as DS
Lidl-Trek is pleased to announce that Maxime Monfort will join the Team as a Sport Director for the men’s program from 2024 onwards. Monfort counts on 16 years of racing experience, including three spent with Trek’s road program, along with four years as a DS at Lotto Dstny. He brings a wealth of experience from both the road and team car, and possesses a recent familiarity of the peloton, having hung up his racing wheels just four years ago.
“I’ve always remained in contact with the Trek family since I left the Team 10 years ago, first whilst I continued my career as a rider and then as a Sport Director,” said Monfort. “During the last weeks the contact became more ‘professional’ and we spoke about a possible collaboration. I was attracted by the sport project with high ambitions.
“I’m really happy to join the Team as there are so many people still there with whom I formed friendships 10 years ago; too many to name. I’m sure I’ll find the same great atmosphere I left behind: one of a family but at the same time, highly professional. Also, an international team, like Lidl-Trek, is always a guarantee of a healthy and serene atmosphere. A great working environment is for me one of the key of success.
“I think the DNA I had as a rider will match with some of the goals of the Team, such as to perform in stage races and on hilly one day races. I hope to bring to the Team the experience I have gained during my 4 years as a sport director. Every team works in a different way and I certainly can bring the best of my knowledge to Lidl-Trek. Communication between the riders and the staff is something I really believe in, and something I think is important to ensure that a big team works well. I’m really excited with this new challenge!”
