Balsamo stretches the legs on stage 1 in Burgos!

Our Italian sprinter just falls short on stage 1 of Vuelta a Burgos Feminas.

Elisa Balsamo delivered a strong performance in Stage 1 of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, finishing second in the uphill sprint to Poza de la Sal. The 125 km stage featured a 6% rise in the final kilometer, where Balsamo launched a powerful sprint but Lorena Wiebes of SD Worx-Protime had enough in the legs to overtake Balsamo just before the line, securing the stage victory.

Stage 1 unfolded over 125km from Burgos to Poza de la Sal, featuring three categorised climbs along the way. The Lidl-Trek women kept tabs on an 11 rider breakaway and insured it was brought back so Elisa had a chance to fight for the victory. Elisa took a chance, starting her sprint early but unfortunately just came up short. Tommorow’s stage 2 should be another chance for Elisa to sprint for the top step!
