Carlos Verona signs three-year contract extension with Lidl-Trek

Spanish climber to continue Lidl-Trek collaboration through 2028

Lidl-Trek is pleased to announce that Carlos Verona has signed a contract extension that will see him race in the Team’s colors through 2028.

Since joining Lidl-Trek in 2024, Verona has brought with him over a decade of WorldTour experience and an unrelenting work ethic. A true team player, he’s known for his selflessness and reliability in the mountains—always ready to sacrifice his own chances to give his teammates the best shot at victory.

That commitment was repaid in full at this year’s Giro d’Italia. With the Team’s GC ambitions dashed, Carlos seized a rare personal opportunity and powered to an emotional stage win — a triumph celebrated by fans and teammates alike. Mads Pedersen even described it as the best moment of the Giro, despite his own four stage victories.

Starting a race with the ambition to win makes all the effort worthwhile for a domestique like me.

“I really enjoy the multicultural atmosphere of the team and the work environment, which is enriching both professionally and personally,” said Carlos Verona.

“I love my role within the team. With such a strong group, we always have a card to play in the fight for victory, and it’s a great feeling to contribute in any way I can — even when we don’t win. Starting a race with the ambition to win makes all the effort worthwhile for a domestique like me.

“I’ve been a professional cyclist for 15 years, but honestly, the last two seasons have been the ones I’ve enjoyed the most and where I think I’ve performed my best. Over time, I’ve learned to understand myself better — how to train to be at 100%, how to enjoy the process, find balance with family life, and approach each day’s work with the right attitude.

“That’s why I’m looking forward to contributing as much as possible to the team’s success in every race I ride — especially in the Grand Tours, where endurance and experience really matter. There, I can guide the younger riders, help the team win as many stages as possible, and hopefully play a part in achieving a General Classification victory — something I haven’t done yet, but truly hope to accomplish soon with Lidl-Trek.”

“Carlos is one of those riders every team wants,” said Luca Guercilena, Lidl-Trek General Manager. “He works tirelessly, brings calm and experience to every race, and raises the level of everyone around him. His Giro stage win this year was a special moment — not just for him, but for the whole Team. You could see how much respect and affection his teammates have for him.

“Carlos has found a home here, and having him on board for the next three years is a big advantage for us. He’s a cornerstone of our climbing group, a great mentor for the younger riders, and a rider we can always count on.”
