Coffee Talk with Jasper Stuyven

This week's Segafredo coffee chat is with Jasper Stuyven, who's missing the classics but still enjoying his 'coffee' rides.

What’s your morning routine?

I wake up and drink a coffee, and I let my dog outside to do his business, then I’ll have another coffee. I jump on the home trainer, normally on Zwift, and get some training done, and then the morning is over.

How do you like your coffee?

I do like cappuccinos, but I like to switch around which style of coffee I drink, maybe an americano, maybe an espresso or doppio espresso. These are the four options that I always go with.

How many coffees do you drink before a race?

Before a race, I don’t drink that much coffee. I have one or two in the morning at breakfast, but I don’t really drink it on the bus before the race. So, I’d say usually two.

What for you is a ‘coffee ride’?

For me, a coffee ride can be two things. Either you do a long ride, really relaxed, and stop for a good coffee in the middle. But I think the real meaning of a coffee ride is one hour to one and a half hours with a good coffee and cake in between. I like to head in the direction of Italy from Monaco with a beautiful flat route. I can easily be away for three hours but with only an hour and a half spent riding because we spend so long in the café. It’s always nice to find a café where they serve Segafredo coffee.

Favorite company for a coffee ride

Anyone who is in for a decent stop and a good coffee, who likes to take a coffee and a nice cake or pie as well.

How much has your daily life changed in the time of this pandemic?

It’s changed a lot. I think it’s mentally really hard to train without immediate goals or to keep busy without goals. It’s usually the most important time of the year for me. It has its ups and downs, and we try to make the best out of it, but it’s not easy to stay positive every day.

How do you invest your free time at home?

I’ve been taking longer walks with our dog now to enjoy some extra time outside. I’m also using my PlayStation a bit more, and I’ve been trying some new dinner dishes, some longer recipes while I have the time. All those things add up and make the days pass by.
