Isabella Holmgren takes Durango in style!

Isabella crosses the line solo after attacking over the final climb to claim her first professional victory.

Isabella secured her first professional road racing victory at the Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria in the Basque Country. Our 19-year-old Canadian launched a solo attack during the final climb, approximately 10 kilometers from the finish. She used her technically ability on the descent to quickly distance herself from the peloton, establishing a gap that she maintained to the finish line, crossing with the line with enough time to sit up and realise her achievement.

This victory marks a big step in Isabella’s career, showcasing her versatility across multiple disciplines. Previous wins include last year’s U23 double world championships on the mountain bike in both XCO and XCC as well as the 2023 junior world cyclocross championships and last year’s Canadian cyclocross championships. Today’s victory marks the start of a very promising road campaign!

In Isabella's words..

I really couldn't believe that I won, I didn't even have a celebration at the line. It was really a super hard race, we knew that the race would be made on the final climb so we went all in there and I noticed that I had a small gap so I just went full gas until the line. It was a pretty technical descent so it was a bit of an advantage being alone, I could take the corners how I wanted and whatever line I thought best. Im just so happy!
