RACE GALLERY: Amstel Gold Race

Two exclusive photo galleries from the first race of the Ardennes' triptych, captured by Zac Williams and Federica Twila Muzzi

It was a strange race, with a frantic finish. In the end, it turned out it was more of a criterium than a selective classic race. My feelings were good and I tried to play my cards the best I could. With so many fresh riders in the finale, it was difficult to do more. It was an easier course to manage but harder for those, like us, who wanted to make a selection. As a team, we showed our strength. We cannot fault ourselves for anything. Looking back to the final sprint, fifth place remains the best possible result. My final thought goes to the people who were involved in the accident - Elisa Longo Borghini, 5th

It was one of the best Amstel Gold Race of my career looking at the result. My legs were strong and, in the end, I think I could have gotten more than a 7th place. I missed a bit of explosivity in the finale and I felt I could keep going in the very end. We rode strong on the front, but I when passed the finish line I had the feeling that, with a different race situation or a bit of luck, I could have done better - Bauke Mollema, 7th
