The Vega Xtreme jacket is a great new offering from Santini for autumn/winter 2018/19. Designed for extreme weather conditions, it protects not just against cold and wind but rain too. Successfully road-tested by the Trek-Segafredo in torrential rain during the 2018 Milano-Sanremo, this is a jacket for all riders who want to keep cycling through the winter and refuse to let bad weather spoil their fun.
The Vega Xtreme is made in collaboration with Polartec and its conception and development are detailed in a thermoplastic inside label.
The jacket features an outer layer of Polartec Windbloc which protects the wearer from wind, rain and damp as well as guaranteeing superb stretch, breathability and body heat balance.
Polartec Alpha, on the other hand, is used on the inside of the collar to keep this delicate area warm while still allowing optimal sweat evaporation.
The raw cut sleeves are made from padded fleece with a completely waterproof outer PU layer at the wrists and a longer back for maximum protection.
Visibility on the road is guaranteed too by two orange stripes on the shoulders that also feature small reflective dots and also the Santini logo on the back. A waterproof zip back pocket keeps valuables safe and dry.
Leslie Zamboni, Product Manager for apparel with Trek: “The development of the Vega Xtreme jacket started from comments of riders, who were asking for a warmer piece that protects also from water. As a matter of fact, it started after last year’s Strade Bianche, where the riders were completely wet and frozen by the time they reached the finish in Siena. The task ahead was to find a product that could be light in terms of weight, warm and water resistant. The result was this material that combines all the technical requests. Santini really did a fantastic job listening to our riders.”
“To remain true to Trek’s safety initiative, we decided to add the team logos in a reflective print – unique in the peloton, and safe on the road for training.”
