Nicole Göldi is one of the biggest names to know in a blossoming sport
Nicole Göldi, just 19 years old, has established herself as a force in the burgeoning discipline of e-mountain bike racing.
This past weekend, she won the opening race of the 2022 E-Bike World Tour, a three-race circuit in just its second year of existence. The two-day race in Flachau, Austria, consisted of multiple stages each day, for a grand total of 150 kilometers of riding, 5,000 meters of elevation gain and 6,000 meters of descent.
Göldi — riding a Trek Rail, equipped with a Bosch eBike Systems motor — led at the end of Day 1, and held off eMTB veteran and fellow Trek athlete Nathalie Schneitter for the victory. The result confirmed Göldi’s knack for the sport. Last year, she was crowned the eMTB XC world champion when she held off Laura Charles by 13 seconds in Val di Sole.
Göldi appeared to have a blast at her first E-Bike World Tour event.
“It was just a lot of fun but also a lot of suffering, pushing myself to the limit until my legs and arms are burning,” Göldi wrote on Instagram after the race. “It was a totally new experience to race on open trails so you have some cows, horses or some passages where you have to walk, and it‘s definitely not easy to carry your e-bike over rocks.”
The E-Bike World Tour may be relatively new on the scene, but Göldi is certainly one of the riders to watch. She will be taking on two more races as part of the Tour, the first in Tignes Val-d’Isère, France, from July 29-30, and the second in Verbier, in her home country of Switzerland, from Aug. 10-12.
