Trek Factory Racing opens XC season with three victories

Jolanda Neff, Hattie Harnden and Riley Amos went to Spain and took care of business

One race down, three podium top steps.

The Trek Factory Racing XC team opened the 2022 season with a trip to the Internacionales XCO race in Chelva, Spain, and they left with a busload of hardware, highlighted by Jolanda Neff’s win against a star-studded elite women’s field. The Tokyo Olympic champion went solo on the final lap to distance second-place Linda Indergand and third-place Martina Berta from a three-person lead group.

Riley Amos acknowledging the crowd.

In the U23 races, Riley Amos and Hattie Harnden thoroughly impressed. Amos won the men’s race by 1:12 over second-place Luca Grieco, and Harnden, fresh off an “off” season of cyclocross racing, won the women’s race by 1:20 over Sara Cortinovis.

Vlad Dascalu made his TFR debut in the men’s elite race and took a podium spot, placing fifth in a tightly-contested battle. He finished 1:12 out of first, and just 16 seconds out of second.

The season is very young, but the stakes will be ramping up quickly with the first World Cup race in Petropolis, Brazil, fewer than two months away. Keep following along for what should be an incredibly entertaining season, and enjoy the scenes from Chelva below.
