The American triathlete takes top honors in the home state of Trek
Linsey Corbin put her stamp on Ironman Wisconsin after putting together a 1:01:16 swim, a 4:59:01 bike, and a 3:04:52 marathon to set a new course record in a time of 9:12:39.
Jennie Hansen (USA) finished in second with a time of 9:47:06, and Katie Thomas (USA) rounded out the podium in third with a time of 9:50:12
“I am thrilled to have taken the win – and setting new bike and course records! Racing Ironman Wisconsin has been a bucket-list event for me – it’s the home of Trek bicycle, has a challenging bike course, and a run that showcases all that downtown Madison has to offer,” said Corbin. “My day wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Mark Andrews and the Trek Race Shop who had my equipment dialed and set me up for a great race with a flawless lead-in to the event. I am looking forward to the Ironman World Championships in five weeks’ time.”
In the process of setting the new course record, Linsey also set a new record in the bike split, clocking under five hours for the 112-mile hilly course.
After exiting the swim in third place, Linsey had some ground to make up on the bike, and it did not take long for her to overtake and pass the two women in front. Once in the lead, she never looked back. After crushing the bike leg, she continued to build an insurmountable lead in the run and crossed the line more than 30 minutes ahead of second place.
“After making changes to my bike fit, training, and equipment choices this summer, I came into the race with the goal of nailing a solid bike split. I exited the swim three minutes off the lead and got to work on my Trek Speed Concept, taking the lead 18 miles into the race. I felt solid all day, building momentum over the challenging 112-mile course and setting a new bike course record in the process. Onto the run, I had a 12-minute lead and enjoyed ticking off the miles on the spectator-filled course.”
It was a special week for Linsey, who was able to visit her extended ‘family’ at Trek HQ in Waterloo, train on the beautiful Wisconsin roads, and then on race day, present Trek with the best thank you gift possible.
