De Ronde 2020: Lockdown Edition

Watch the first-ever virtual edition of Ronde Van Vlaanderen as Jasper Stuyven goes against 12 strong rivals.

With the Ronde van Vlaanderen unable to take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, 13 pro riders, including Trek-Segfredo’s Jasper Stuyven, went head-to-head on a virtual 32km course, taking in the final three climbs of the actual Tour of Flanders route.

Reactions from Jasper Stuyven, who finished in 5th place in the first-ever virtual edition:

That was brutal! Very painful. I had no idea what to expect. I think everyone started a bit looking [at each other] and waiting, and then there was a big attack already.

Maybe I made the mistake to wait and not go there, and I tried to bridge on the Oude Kwaremont, but that didn’t happen. I used all the bullets there, let’s say. Then it was just a sufferfest until the line. I was happy to catch up with Remco (Evenepoel) so I could recover a little bit in the wheel.

Really nice experience. I think that was harder than a real race almost. It was nice to give something to the fans and to the sponsors in these difficult times.
