Cooper takes South Island XCO title

Anton Cooper wins South Island Championship in advance of Nationals

A week before his attack on the New Zealand National Title, Anton headed to the South Island for the region’s XCO championships. Read how it went in Anton’s own words.

I decided to head down South a week before Nationals to incorporate the South Island XCO Champs, held at Hawea Flat, into my Nationals preparation. With limited opportunities for multi lap XCO racing in NZ, having a full dummy run a week prior to the National Champs, and in the same region, made a lot of sense.

The course was dry and dusty, with plenty of twists, turns, and techy rock features to navigate. The sun also baked the course and riders, but man and machine were up for the challenge with my Procaliber eating up whatever the track threw at it.

The legs also felt great, and I managed to take the win comfortably in the end against a strong, quality field. Looking forward to Nationals this Saturday 25th!
