Otto
Vergaerde

Born in Ghent, Belgium, Otto Vergaerde is a product of the Flemish cycling school. He turned professional with team Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise and raced for three seasons in support of Mathieu Van der Poel in the Alpecin-Fenix Team. A true unsung hero, Otto has quietly become a trusted domestique in the most important cobbled Classics. Otto knows the winding parcours of the Flemish classics like nobody else and since joining Trek-Segafredo, he has firmly established his place in the classics squad, where his responsibility is to support Jasper Stuyven and Mads Pedersen over the same terrain.

What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

Winning Strade Bianche with Mathieu van der Poel.

What was the biggest obstacle you have overcome?

Stepping down to Continental team after 4 years in Pro Continental, and then coming back all the way to the WorldTour with Trek-Segafredo.

Tell us about your greatest cycling achievement.

Result-wise: European champion in track cycling. But the best feeling was winning the Tour of Flanders with MvdP in 2020.
