Simone Consonni Joins Lidl-Trek on two-year contract

Italian fast man arrives to boost Lidl-Trek's sprinting arsenal

Lidl-Trek is proud to announce that Simone Consonni has signed a two-year contract with the Team. Consonni’s arrival fortifies the US-registered Team’s power in sprints as it seeks to add more strength to its lead out trains.

Consonni, who is currently recovering from injuries sustained during training at the Glasgow World Championships, is hoping to return to competition before the end of the season. Despite his recent setback, Consonni remains resolute in his determination to contribute to the Team’s future ambitions.

“The proposal from Lidl-Trek came at the ideal moment in my career,” Simone Consonni revealed, reflecting on his decision to join the Team. “With this new adventure, I believe I have chosen the perfect Team to express my full potential as a rider and as a team player. I feel I can grow again, be more consistent, and become an important rider for the Team’s objectives. Working on myself to achieve this status will be my priority.

“The idea of helping others makes me happier than the idea of having my own space, my own freedom. It’s an approach, a quality I would say, that many have recognized in me over the years, and I really want to improve it in my new adventure with Lidl-Trek.”

Simone Consonni and Jonathan Milan will soon team up at Lidl-Trek

Consonni’s role will primarily focus on being a lead out rider for sprints, particularly alongside compatriot Jonathan Milan. Their familiarity and complementary qualities on the bike position them as a force to be reckoned with in sprints next year.

“Lidl-Trek has really strong sprinters in the Team. I have a special relationship with Jonathan Milan, we know each other well and have shared incredible experiences wearing the Azzurra jersey on track. Helping him to grow will be one of my tasks, something that motivates me a lot. But, apart from my feeling with Jonathan, I’m looking forward to giving a full contribution to the Team. I clearly remember the win of Mads Pedersen at the Tour de France this year. It was impressive seeing riders like Ciccone, Skjelmose and Lopez pulling for him on the flat, as well as the perfect teamwork in the final. It shows the dimension of how strong the team spirit is at Lidl-Trek. I’m already excited to be part of a Team like this.”

Luca Guercilena, General Manager of Lidl-Trek, expressed his enthusiasm for Simone Consonni’s arrival. “We are thrilled to welcome Simone to the Lidl-Trek family. He is a humble guy who is eager to contribute to the Team’s success and is just as happy if that success comes from a teammate crossing the line first. His role will be in the lead out, to protect our sprinters and put them in the perfect position to win. Simone has invaluable experience with Jonathan Milan from their time spent racing on the track together, a detail that will make their partnership in the sprints even better. We’re all looking forward to seeing them in action next year.”
