Not 1, not 2 but 3bau Nys

The Belgian looks unbeatable at Tour de Pologne after taking his third win on six stages

On a day when his feelings were not those of better days, as he stated in morning interviews, Thibau Nys still crossed the finish line first at the Tour de Pologne, winning the prestigious Bukovina finish.

Well, honestly I must say a big apology to all the riders I told I was not feeling great today but, believe me, I was speaking the truth this morning. I was really not on my top level today, I felt like I was not able to push myself over the limit. In the end, if I was able to be there playing for the win, it was also a kind of luck, the sort you only get if you always believe in it - Thibau Nys

The script for Thibau’s third victory (out of six stages) was different from that of stage one and three, at least until 400 metres from the line. Up to that point, Thibau was just following at the back of the leading group.

“I was struggling a lot on the climbs and, on the last steep climb, I was perhaps in the third group. Then, following the moves of the riders and teams that wanted to come back, I somehow made it.

“The last 300 meters was the first moment I thought “OK, maybe I can still win today”. I knew I had just one shot and I had to fire it in the right moment, but I was always struggling and mentally it was really not easy to manage” said again the young Belgian.

But, in the end, Nys put on the same, amazing show like he did on the other days, leaving no room for his competitors.

“I was just going full gas. I didn’t really know where I was because I was not really in control of what was happening, something totally different compared to the first two stages. Today, I just needed to try to follow and hope that luck turned my way… and it did.

“The big difference with the other big guys on the front is that they were maybe more of a “climber”, but I was the one who was able to still have the kick to beat everyone. I managed to get over those  hills, and even if I struggled, I always believe in a come back. I really built my chance today.

“This season it’s going way better than I could have dreamed, but I’m also aware that it cannot always be like this. There will be difficult moments in the future as well. But now, I want only to enjoy this great moment with my team, who’s always at my side on and off the bike” Thibau added.
