Jolanda Neff and Evie Richards repeat with podiums
Let Gets, France has delivered once again, providing incredible views and awe inspiring performances from the XC World Cup competitors. For the Trek Factory Racing program, it was a mixed bag. Evie Richards and Jolanda Neff both scored a pair of second place finished in the U-23 category and elite category, respectively. A tougher day for Anton Cooper and Emily Batty, who both struggled on the French course.
Warm up and practice was done under spectacular backgrounds
Short track came up fast, with riders looking to secure top starting positions
The short track is always a fast and violent affair
Both Emily and Jolanda fought hard
And left nothing in the tank
Staying cool is key
In addition to the massive physical output, the strategy of short track is more and more prevalent
The technical side isn't missing either
Nothing is left even after a 20 minute event like short track
Race day comes quick, and Evie was first up
Time to race!
The battle at the front kicked off right away
It was Evie in contention the whole race, with her looking to best her previous week's second place
Evie would finish a strong second place
I am over the moon with how the past two World Cup races have gone," said Evie Richards. "When I discussed with the physio that my first race back would be Les Gets, I didn’t ever expect that I would be on the podium! It is so nice being back on the racing scene, I have loved being around the team, as I missed seeing all these people during my rehab! I feel like I have come back from my injury as a stronger, happier and smarter racer and it makes me excited for the rest of the season. Les Gets was a beautiful place to host a World Cup, the steep long climbs and bumpy grass made for tough but exciting races, and I am happy that we will be heading here next year for another World Cup as the crowds were amazing!
Before you could blink, elite women were off
Another fast start
Jolanda would again fight her way back to the front after a solid start
A second place finish for Jolanda on the day
Always nice to be on the box
Anton in full focus
Anton kicking it up
Plenty of climbing in France
It would be a tough finish for Anton, falling below his expectations
All the champagne has been consumed, and it's a couple weeks till the next World Cup in Italy!
