Lawrence picks up a final 2019 tri win
In a strong finish to her 2019 triathlon season, Holly Lawrence defended her legacy at the Bahrain IronMan 70.3. On Saturday, she earned Bahrain’s Middle Eastern Champion title for the third year in a row and closed out 2019 with a win.
Through the 1.9 km swim and 86 km bike, Lawrence was surrounded by a strong pack of competitors. It wasn’t until the final kilometers of the 21.1 km run that she pulled away into a decisive lead in Bahrain on Saturday.
“[I] came into this after a big break after 70.3 Worlds and only a short build and not at my usual bike fitness,” Lawrence said. “Dealt with some different race dynamics out there and proud to keep my head and race tactical race.”
Lawrence is the 2016 70.3 World Champion and recovered from a broken foot during the 2018 season. She finished second at the 2019 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France in September.
In this final competition for her 2019 schedule, she said “rocking up happy and healthy is all I can ask for” and then was delighted to end the year on two strong feet enjoying a swig of bubbly.
