Ben scores the win while Holly Lawrence takes third
Ben Kanute took a tight win at the Island House triathlon, taking down Terenzo Bozzone in a sprint finish. The victory follows an awesome season that saw Ben grace numerous podiums.
The tropical race has athletes competes in a unique pursuit style, that saw Ben start 11 seconds ahead of the competition, based on the previous day’s events. Nevertheless, Bozzone was able to catch up to Ben in the run. Once both came to finish stretch, it was an all out brawl, with Ben taking the narrow victory.
Holly Lawrence came into the weekend cautious of expectations due to the short and intense format.
"Originally when they had released this year's Island House format with the much shorter distances I contemplated not racing as it wouldn't suit me and thought I'd be left in the dust. I'm so glad I did, coming away with 3rd totally exceeded my expectations especially battling it out with some of the best ITU athletes! After stage 1 (super sprint bike/run/swim) I was in joint 4th with three others and after the second stage secured myself in 3rd (1&2 a little too far away) but with a couple of fast ITU girls just seconds behind me I thought for sure would catch me with just the sprint left to go, so I was thrilled to see daylight running in to the last Km's behind me and secure that podium spot!"
Kirsten Kasper had high aspirations coming into the race, and was able to put that into reality with a fourth place finish.
"4th place at Island House is bittersweet as I was striving for the podium. That being said I am very happy with my effort and result against a world class field of women. Non draft racing was completely new to me and I had only been training on my speed concept TT bike for 3 weeks. I am proud of how I competed and executed over the 3 stages of racing. I enjoyed the new challenge of racing on the TT bike and I plan to do more in the future."
