Holly Lawrence makes it two in a row with a win in Utah.
Holly has been making a major mark on 2019, taking the win in Oceanside just a few weeks ago. This weekend showed the continuation of that good form, with a win at the classic Utah. Holly made an indelible statement, winning by eight minutes over Paula Findlay.
I was so pumped to get back to St. George and the conditions were perfect. I had a little more company exiting the swim than I wanted even though I had a good swim and led most of the way. Out on the bike, the plan was to manage the rollers on the way out, time trial the mid-section, and then take the climb up snow canyon HARD before the long descent back into town. Paula (Findlay) was always behind me and I didn’t really shake her until I hit the climb where I think I put like 3 minutes into her and came into T2 with a nice gap of around 4 minutes.
When I saw the race time I knew I was on for the course record without having to go nuts on the run. The run course is mega tough but it suited me just digging in on the uphills and relaxing on the downhills. I hit the last few miles knowing I was well clear of the other women and just enjoyed the crowds and finish line feels. I smashed the course record by 5 minutes and a gap of 8 minutes to 2nd place!
