Amanuel
Ghebreigzabhier

28-year-old Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier is one of the top cyclists from Eritrea, a country that's becoming a prominent force in cycling, and easily found a home in the WorldTour with his excellent climbing and ability to handle the rigors of three-week Grand Tours and grueling one-day races. Amanuel has reveled in his support role but has also enjoyed the freedom from Lidl-Trek to jump into breakaways. Amanuel suffered a serious injury after crashing at the 2022 Volta a Catalunya and spent most of the remaining season rehabilitating. Now, back to full strength, Amanuel continues to look for his first pro win outside of Africa. With his talent, motivation and ability to find the right move, it may not be far off.

Tell us about your greatest cycling achievement.

Winning the Eritrea National Championships road race in 2014.

What one thing do you miss the most when you are at the races?

I miss speaking my own language sometimes. This year there were two others from Eritrea at the Giro and that was nice to speak together.

What is your dream race to win?

A stage in a Grand Tour.

Who has been a role model for you in cycling?

I have a lot of memories from riding in local races in Eritrea when I was young. I remember especially Daniel Teklehaimanot. At the time, he was racing for the GreenEdge team and I have a lot of good memories about him.

What is your favorite Bontrager or Trek equipment?

I really like the Trek Emonda. Trek is a very famous bike in Eritrea. A lot of riders ride Trek in Eritrea and all of the local teams are using it and so is the national team. My first bike was also a Trek!
