Shirin
van Anrooij

Shirin van Anrooij is a blossoming talent. After a substantial period as a stagiaire with Lidl-Trek in 2020, Shirin earned a neo-pro contract and joined compatriots Ellen van Dijk and Lucinda Brand in her first year in the elite ranks. Like Lucinda Brand, Shirin splits duty between the Baloise-Trek cyclocross team and Lidl-Trek. In 2022 Shirin enjoyed a breakout season. After a step up in cyclocross, Shirin jumped back into road racing with 9th place in Strade Bianche and a solid Ardennes campaign. She was selected for the inaugural Tour de France Femmes and, despite riding in service of team leader Elisa Longo Borghini, she emerged as the winner of the young rider competition. She recently won her first ever World Cup cyclocross event, shortly followed by another. And she's not slowing down: In March, 2023, she scored her first WorldTour victory at Trofeo Binda. Shirin will be one to watch for years to come.

Who inspires you? Why?

Marc Herremans! He started coaching me when I was younger and I have so much respect for him for being so happy and grateful to be alive after everything that happened to him. He broke his back during an accident during a training camp and was paralyzed. His power to never give up is an inspiration for me!

If you could borrow one cycling aptitude from any of your Lidl-Trek teammates what would it be and from whom?

I would definitely borrow the experience and tactical knowledge of Lizzie Deignan. The amount of races she raced and ended on the top podium spot is huge, I think every cyclist is dreaming to achieve what she's already achieved.

What is your favorite Bontrager or Trek equipment?

My personal (custom) designed Worlds cyclocross bike which I received at the beginning of 2020 after winning the Junior World Championships.
