Emil sweeps up at Crankworx slopestyle

C3 rider Emil Johansson takes top step at Crankworx Rotorua with near perfect score

With a whopping 96 points, Emil Johansson took the Crankworx slopestyle competition by force over the weekend in New Zealand.

Conditions leading up to the slopestyle competition were windy and made for tough practice runs. But after Emil’s injury that prevented his participation here last year, he wasn’t about to let a little breeze stop him.

“The wind was pretty tough in practice so on the competition day we had just started riding the full course for the first time really,” Emil said. “With that little amount of practice, it was really hard to get the full run in from top to bottom. I managed to get most of the tricks in practice done before the competition started.”

That extra effort left him singing through the course with an opposite triple tail-whip and a windshield wiper 360.

“I’m super stoked that I pulled it all together,” Emil said. “It was on the edge here. It was really hard for me to keep consistent, do it all when it counts. I’m stoked I managed to do it.”

Sixteen-year-old Jackson Goldstone also came away with a Crankworx victory. He took home the Whip-Off trophy, as well as scoring a top step on the pump track.
