Thank you Madigan and Gunnar!

Madigan and Gunnar are fierce riders on the bike and incredible people off it

Madigan Munro and Gunnar Holmgren are two of the fiercest competitors and most supportive teammates you’ll ever find. They are saying goodbye to Trek after a whirlwind 2025 season. We can’t wait to see what they do next.

Madigan Munro began riding for Trek at just 18 years old, racing both XC and cyclocross. Over the course of five years, she steadily improved on the bike, while consistently charming everyone she met.

In her first ever race with Trek Factory Racing, she shared a room with the legendary Jolanda Neff. “I was so starstruck, I could hardly believe it.” She battled fearlessly throughout her U23 years, and broke out in 2024 with five World Cup podiums, a third U.S. XCO national title, a Pan-American title, and third-place overall finishes on the U23 World Cup XCO and short track standings.

“Along the way, I gained friendships that I know will last a lifetime,” Munro said. “From joining the WorldTour road team camps in the early season, to wrapping up each year at Trek HQ in Waterloo — playing hockey, reminiscing about the season, and everything in between — we shared so many laughs as we traveled and raced across South America, Europe, and North America. Somehow, we always managed to stay out of trouble.”

Munro raced as an Elite rider on the World Cup circuit for the first time in 2025, and found her footing late in the year with three consecutive Top 20 finishes across stops in Lenzerheide and Lake Placid. Her future is bright.

“This journey has propelled my professional career and shaped me as both an athlete and a person,” Munro said. “It is with sadness that the team and I part ways, but the cycling community is a tightly knit one, and I know our paths will continue to cross on the circuit. Now it’s time to see what great things this next chapter will bring.”

Gunnar Holmgren wasn’t with Trek long after joining the team last January, but he made a big impact on everyone he met. Like Munro, he came on strong at the end of the season, finishing 26th in the Elite Men’s XCO in Lake Placid. He was also a perpetually upbeat presence in the pits, and quite handy with his barista skills

We’ll miss the family reunions at XC World Cups, with his younger sisters Isabella and Ava joining in the racing from Lidl-Trek. And of course, we’ll be rooting hard for Gunnar at this next stop.

“I enjoyed meeting all the driven people behind Trek and racing in the colors for a year,” Holmgren said. “I’ll miss my teammates and the support from everyone at the factory.”
